No heels for this bride to be

Dan is only really 2 inches or so taller than I. Yet, I am a shoe lover..I worship shoes of all shapes from flats to 5 inch stilettos…if I could, I’d convert a bedroom into a shoe closet and buy every shoe I ever fell in love with. I have a small, okay, BIG, obsession with shoes..so much that I have to promise Mr. K5 that I won’t visit the shoe department if we go to Target together. He’s a funny one. I will sometimes spend an hour or two at DSW pacing up and down every aisle making sure to look at every shoe in the place…of course the clearance rack is the first place I run to. Never know what you’ll find. But one thing I must add is that I am a size 10 in open-toe shoes and size 11 in closed-toe shoes. Annoying. So the clearance rack mostly always has hideous stuff in my sizes. Oh well.

Back to the point – I can’t wear heels on our wedding day. I cannot be taller than the groom. Some brides are okay with that. I am not.

So I’ve begun my search for amazing flats in all sorts of colors, just bookmarking page after page of glorious shoes. Bridesmaids dresses haven’t been decided on yet so I’m waiting until then to really zero in on a color. And, yes, I said color. I can’t wear an all-white satin “bridal flat”. It’s not me. I want something fun, maybe with a little embellishment.

Enough chatter though – here are just some of my favorites so far, found via Zappos.com.

Love my Dad!

Happy Father's Day!

Here's a photo of us at my third grade Father/Daughter Dance.

Gets me thinking about what song to dance to for our dance together :-) Really would like to have a slow song but have it cut into the Twist or something funny. We'll see!

Feeling loved

A post not about anything related to the wedding, but about my friends and how much I love them and they love me :-) Just feeling blessed, and thankful for the ladies in my life.

Met up with two of my bests tonight. Jenn is home from Ohio! Went to Scarborough Beach in Narragansett and then had dinner with Erica at Crazy Burger, also in Narragansett. Highly recommend! Adorable outdoor patio for those warm summer nights :-)

John Orton yardsale steals

Five coral/peach table runners – each 12 feet long, and 3 tall glass vases…all for $60.00. I think that’s a good bargain! The fabric can be used in the cocktail area on the card and favor tables for the wow factor when people come in OR along our head table which will be super long with 16 people. I’ll leave that vision up to my florist :-)

Overwhelmed by too many stationery choices

Aside from trying to calculate the cost of making homemade limoncello favors for 220 guests, I am really stuck on stationery at the moment...invitations, reply cards, place cards, save the dates...the whole nine yards. I found a couple of printers outside of Rhode Island that can do letterpress for a lot less than many printers because they accept custom graphic design. So I think..."Easy! Let's get this done!" Well, not so easy when I'm overwhelmed by design ideas, choosing two typefaces, choosing a size that will not cost extra to mail, one color vs. two colors, etc.

Then I think...why don't I just order pre-designed stationery sets from a site like Wedding Paper Divas and call it a day? Honestly, I think I'd end up spending more there than getting the custom letterpress done at those aforementioned printers. Trust me, I ran a quote. And I am not even thrilled with the invites I'm seeing out there that are pre-designed. Don't get me wrong...there are lots of colorful, elegant and classy invites out there...but let's face it: I'm far too picky. I'm a type A personality, an Aries and a first-born.

At this point, I have a little over 11 months until the wedding...I really want to firm up these ideas soon so that I can design Save the Dates to match the invites...but the Save the Dates aren't deal breakers... in fact they don't have to match invites at all...that buys me more time to fuss right?

Then there's the thought of having another talented graphic designer or an Etsy shop just design my invites for me and relieve me of my stress...artists can't paint for themselves, can't design for themselves, because they are too overwhelmed by their creative ideas that they can't decide what they want!

Letterpressed handwriting...can it get any sweeter??

Any brides out there care to share any advice?

I suppose we should get crackin' with writing down our guests addresses so we're prepared to mail these babies when they ARE designed!

Ready to dig in!

So I have been MIA from my blog for quite some time. I really apologize :-)

We got back from vacation (which was amazing!) and I had to scurry to get my final projects done for my 2 RISD classes. The mad rush came to an end on June 4 when I got to hand in all my stuff! Still awaiting grades. Needless to say, I'm feeling refreshed and invigorated that I can just think about wedding details without the haunting voice in my head saying "you should be doing homework right now".'

Here are some highlights from the cruise!

Sandals, Dunn’s River in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

HIGHLY recommend a Sandals for a honeymoon. Unfortunately, this one is closing in July 2010.

The delicious food – jerk chicken and french fries, and unlimited drinks from the bar…juice, soda, mixed drinks, etc. To be honest, this food was so much better than Royal Caribbean’s on the ship.

I am obsessed with clouds and the sky – this was flying home into Warwick/Providence. Some great inspiration for future artwork.
